SELMA, Texas, Dec. 1, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Communities from across Texas came together on November 18^th at their local food banks for the Fisher® Shares & Cares Volunteer Day to help package meals for families in need. More than 400 volunteers in San Antonio, Dallas, Houston, Amarillo and Abilene helped package over 80,000 pounds of food that was delivered to families in need just in time for Thanksgiving. For the fourth consecutive year, Fisher® Nuts also announced a donation of $40,000 to Feeding Texas to help feed 400,000 Texas residents throughout the holiday season.

Feeding Texas member food banks distributed enough food for 284 million meals in 2014 nourishing over three million Texans through a statewide network of 3,000 soup kitchens, food pantries and local agencies. The organization also helps food banks build the capacity to end hunger by managing statewide food sourcing and purchasing programs, offering expert technical assistance and training, and spreading food bank innovations and best practices statewide.
