Florida Animal Friend Disburses $600,000 To The 2014 Grant Recipients

TAMPA, Fla., Aug. 22, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Florida Animal Friend, a non-profit organization dedicated to preventing pet overpopulation, announces the 2014 recipients of their annual grant award. This funding provides the opportunity for municipal and non-profit organizations to focus on spay and neuter projects throughout Florida. Florida Animal Friend is pleased to be able to distribute the largest amount ever given out in one year, over $600,000, to these organizations based on their applications, which are reviewed by the Florida Animal Friend grant review committee.

• Community Cats of Charlotte, Inc.	• Santa Rosa County Animal Services
• First Coast No More Homeless Pets, Inc.	• Sheltering Hands, Inc.
• Humane Society of Pinellas	• Spay N Save, Inc.
• Humane Society of Saint Lucie County	• Spay The Strays
• Humane Society of Tampa Bay	• SPCA of Central Florida
• Jacksonville Humane Society	• SPCA of Tampa Bay
• Lake City Humane Society, Inc.	• St. Augustine Humane Society

In this highly competitive process, organizations are weighed on a number of criteria including an understanding of the overpopulation issues, thorough communication, plan development and implementation and whether the resources and talent needed to implement such planning is in place.

The grant program is funded through the sale of the Florida Animal Friend license plates, available through the Florida Department of Motor Vehicles. These funds increase the number of alteration surgeries, which greatly reduces pet overpopulation and ultimately saves the lives of homeless cats and dogs. Florida Animal Friend is proud to have awarded the 2014 grants of up to $25,000, which will help these organizations with their implementation efforts.
