NEW YORK, Nov. 13, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Today, Foods From Chile (FoodsFromChile.org) launches a yearlong multimedia U.S. campaign that announces with great fanfare a simple message: Fresh Chilean summer food has arrived, just in time for winter. And Chilean food is bountiful in the U.S.:
- Nearly one billion pounds of fresh fruit are shipped to North America each year from Chile
- Every day, 7 million people eat fresh Chilean salmon
- 80% of imported cherries in the U.S. are from Chile and 52% of imported blueberries in the U.S. are from Chile
- Chile is the 2nd largest producer of avocados
- Chile ships over 200 varieties of fresh fruit to over 70 countries
The U.S. enjoys literally tons of Chilean foods. The campaign highlights the nutritious food that's already on fruit stands, at the seafood counter, on shelves, in wine stores, in homes and on America's plates. The objective of the campaign is to let Americans in on this secret—that it's Chile's pristine land, waters, rich soil and extraordinary climate that bring forth these bountiful, healthful foods.
Sectors include Apples, Avocados, Blueberries, Cherries, Clementine, Dried Fruits, Almonds, Walnuts, Frozen Fruits, Grapes, Juices, Lemons, Oranges, Plums, Chicken, Raspberries, Salmon, Shellfish (primarily mussels), Strawberries, Trout, Wine.
The campaign kicks off with a digital billboard in Times Square that highlights the @FoodsFromChile #NowInSeason Twitter hashtag.
On November 15th, fifteen simultaneous media-, trade-, and blogger-studded dinners will be hosted in five cities: New York, Miami, Chicago, D.C., and L.A. with Foods from Chile on the menu. Flying in from Chile will be internationally acclaimed Chilean chefs from top Chilean restaurants to cook their country's finest foods at the hottest U.S. restaurants in collaboration with celebrated American chefs. At the same time, ten of the most influential food and health bloggers around the country will host in their homes fellow bloggers, and share the scoop on Foods from Chile – and an amazing menu. The events will be chronicled in real time at FoodsFromChile.org with a live photostream.
Among other Chilean dignitaries flying in will be Felix de Vicente Mingo, the Director of ProChile, and Blas Tomic, Head of Fundacion Imagen de Chile. Interviews will be conducted with various media outlets about the strength and diversity of the country's exports.
At FoodsFromChile.org, consumers can find an interactive food seasonality calendar, recipes, tips and information pertaining to healthy eating year round. An online community will be created through Twitter, Facebook, and Pinterest. Regional markets and local gourmet and specialty stores will offer dedicated Chilean tastings.
