Former Barbie Global Brand Marketer Launches Modern Cowgirl Coffee

Southwestern-inspired specialty grade coffee brand launches ahead of National Coffee Day

LOS ANGELES, Sept. 28, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- Ahead of National Coffee Day (Sept. 29th), Katie Herron, a former member of Mattel's Barbie Global Brand Marketing Team, is launching Modern Cowgirl Coffee, a Southwestern-inspired coffee and lifestyle brand built around specialty grade, fair-trade coffee.

Before founding Modern Cowgirl Coffee, Herron worked at Mattel, where she led global brand marketing initiatives for Barbie. She is now applying that experience in consumer storytelling, positioning and brand building to an entrepreneurial venture of her own.

"Modern Cowgirl is about much more than a Western aesthetic," Herron said. "To me, the modern cowgirl represents someone who is ambitious, independent, grounded and willing to create her own path. That idea became even more personal after my mom faced stage 3 cancer. Modern Cowgirl Coffee draws inspiration from Herron's Southwestern roots and a contemporary version of Western culture visible across fashion, music, travel and design. Its flagship Original Cowgirl Blend is produced in small batches using fair-trade coffee and is whole-bean coffee then carefully hand-roasted by longtime local roaster Picacho Coffee Roasters in Las Cruces, New Mexico, a cornerstone of the Paso del Norte region. The coffee is priced at $22 per bag and will be available through ModernCowgirlCoffee.com and able to be shipped to anywhere in the United States.

The company is launching with a direct-to-consumer individual bag purchase and focus on subscriptions with plans to expand into lifestyle products.
