Former SEC Enforcement Attorney Joins Kessler Topaz Meltzer & Check's Whistleblower Litigation Practice Group
RADNOR, Pa., June 8, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Kessler Topaz Meltzer & Check LLP announces that top SEC whistleblower attorney Rebecca M. Katz has joined the Firm's expanding Whistleblower Litigation Practice Group. Ms. Katz has been at the forefront of representing SEC whistleblowers since the inception of the SEC whistleblower program in 2010 and brings more than twenty years experience fighting for the rights of those victimized by corporate fraud, both as a longtime SEC enforcement attorney and in private practice.
"Rebecca is one of the nation's foremost SEC whistleblower attorneys. She has an extraordinary reputation with regulators, colleagues, and clients, and unique experience representing clients in whistleblower complaints before the SEC. She is an important addition to this expanding practice group," said Lee D. Rudy, co-chair of KTMC's whistleblower practice.
KTMC's Whistleblower Litigation Group is co-chaired by Rudy and David A. Bocian, both former federal prosecutors with extensive experience litigating and trying fraud cases. In addition to spending more than ten years working for the Justice Department, Mr. Bocian additionally has the distinction of being one of the few whistleblower attorneys in the United States to have worked in the health care industry, having been responsible for implementing a system-wide compliance program for a complex health system.
Mr. Bocian commented: "As our team of whistleblower attorneys continues to prosecute qui tam matters in federal courts across the country, KTMC's extensive expertise in securities fraud litigation has resulted in a dramatic increase in the number of individuals seeking advice on reporting securities fraud under the provisions of the Dodd-Frank Act. Rebecca has been at the forefront of this practice area since its inception and we welcome another attorney with federal enforcement experience at this crucial point in our growth."
Ms. Katz worked in the SEC's enforcement division for nearly nine years, attaining the role of senior counsel for the Enforcement Division. She then spent more than a decade representing whistleblowers and litigating securities fraud actions at leading securities class action firms in New York before joining KTMC.
A sought-after guest speaker at legal conferences nationwide, Ms. Katz has presented on numerous issues involving the SEC whistleblower program and on developments impacting securities litigation. She is a published author and former faculty member at Practising Law Institute's Securities Litigation & Enforcement Institute; she has also lectured at the Fordham University School of Law's "Eugene P. and Delia S. Murphy Conference on Corporate Law." Ms. Katz has received numerous awards and accolades for her work in securities litigation and serves as a member of the New York City Bar Association Securities Litigation Committee.
