WASHINGTON, Feb. 25, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Former Senate Majority Leader George Mitchell will address ongoing negotiations in world hot spots and the current state of politics and policy in Congress at a National Press Club Newsmakers news conference on Tuesday, March 4 at 10 a.m. in the club's Murrow Room.
Mitchell served as Senate Majority Leader from 1989 to 1995, U.S. Senator from Maine from 1980 to 1995, and later as U.S. Special Envoy for Middle East Peace and U.S. Special Envoy for Northern Ireland, where he brokered the Good Friday Agreement of international peace for which he earned the Presidential Medal of Freedom. Because of his long-held reputation for integrity, he was also entrusted as chief investigator into bribery at the Salt Lake City Olympic Games, and, more recently, as Athletic Integrity Monitor at Penn State.
Mitchell also served as Major League Baseball's chief investigator into the widespread use of performance-enhancing drugs. His 2007 report launched baseball's current enhanced steroid disclosure and enforcement.
