Former South Carolina Governor, David Beasley, Launches Breaking Bread Together as a National Movement to Bridge America's Divides

The former World Food Programme Executive Director founds nationwide initiative bringing Americans together, one meal at a time

COLUMBIA, S.C., Aug. 27, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- Breaking Bread Together, a new national movement founded by former South Carolina Governor and former World Food Programme Executive Director David Beasley, has been launched with a simple but urgent premise: Americans of differing political, cultural, and religious backgrounds still have far more in common than what divides them and the fastest way to rediscover that is to sit down and share a meal.

Breaking Bread Together will bring its model to communities across the country in the months ahead, partnering with local organizations to host meals where neighbors representing different viewpoints come together not to debate, but to listen to one another, discovering shared values and goals.

Breaking Bread Together will roll out in communities nationwide this autumn, with each event hosted in partnership with a local organization and tailored to the community it serves.
