Fort Lauderdale Summer Camp and Summer Programs Announced at First Presbyterian Church of Fort Lauderdale
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla., May 27, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Schools will soon be out for the summer, but First Presbyterian Church of Fort Lauderdale is ready to keep your child engaged and entertained until fall with its full summer schedule of youth and children's programs! From summer camp for young children to weeklong retreats for teens, and cheerleading camp, First Presbyterian Church of Fort Lauderdale will offer programs and activities from June through August for children and youth of all ages.
"It's well-known that the summer months are a critical time for parents to find suitable activities and experiences for their children to continue learning and socializing in safe, supportive environments once schools are out," said Nic Merchant, First Presbyterian Church of Fort Lauderdale's Youth Ministry Director. "Here at First Pres, the youth and children are such an integral part of our congregation that we had to make sure we offered programs that would benefit them during this time, and relieve some of the stress on the parents."
Children's Ministry Summer Programs
The Children's Ministry will be offering Cheerleading Camp, Vacation Bible School (VBS) and an end-of-summer trip to Rapids Water Park.
Cheer Camp Program: The Cheer Camp program, for children ages 6 to 12, will be offered June 20 to 24, 2016 and June 27 to July 1, 2016, at the church from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The program focuses on skill development, but also fosters socializing with others and creativity in a structured camp environment. The cost is $200 per child or $175 per sibling, which includes a $50 non-refundable registration fee. The deadline to register for Cheer Camp is June 14, 2016. Vacation Bible School (VBS): This year's VBS program, titled Surf Shack, will allow children to encounter God's awesomeness through Bible stories and epic adventures each day featuring beach–themed music, crafts, Science projects, recreation and more. Half day program (9 a.m. to 12 p.m.) for children ages PreK4 to 5th grade and full day program (9 a.m. to 3 p.m.) for children 1st grade to 5th grade. Limited spots available, so register early. End-of-Summer Trip to Rapids Water Park: Children in the 1st grade and above are invited to join the Children's Ministry for the annual end-of-summer trip to Rapids Water Park in Riviera Beach, FL on August 10, 2016, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Children must know how to swim.

Youth and College Ministry Summer Programs
The church's Youth and College Ministry will offer a lock in, bi-weekly beach nights and three summer retreats.
Laser Quest Lock In: To kick off a summer of fun, students in 6th through 8th grade can join the Youth and College Ministry on Friday, June 3 from 8:30 p.m. to Saturday, June 4 at 7 a.m. for a Laser Quest Lock In. Parents can drop off students at the Harbor at 8:30 p.m. where students will play games and hang out until 11 p.m. when they will depart as a group to play Laser Quest all night long! For $35 per person, students can play multiple rounds of Laser Quest and eat pizza.
Family Beach Night: Everyone from single young adults to families are invited to enjoy BBQ on the beach, along with activities such as volleyball, soccer and Frisbee, on a bi-weekly basis beginning June 26, 2016 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. The other Family Beach Nights will be held on July 10, July 24 and August 7.
High School Mission Trip: From July 17 to July 22, 2016, incoming 9th graders through to 2016 High School graduates are invited to join the Youth and College Ministry for the annual High School Mission Trip. This year, the group will be headed to Golden Isles, GA, where they will work with TeamEffort Ministries to build a home for a deserving family. Students will also be able to take part in Bible studies, worship and fellowship. The total cost of the trip is $400.
Great Escape: The Great Escape is a middle-school retreat for incoming 6th graders – 8th graders. Students will visit Ocklawaha, Fl, where they will be able to learn the nature of God through Bible studies, worship, and sermons. The staff at Great Escape also prepares outstanding games for all campers every year! From pool parties to tug-a-war, your child will have a lot of stories to tell when they return home. The total cost of the trip is $450.
Back-to-School Retreat: The Youth and College Ministry will also offer a Back-to-School Retreat for 9th through 12th graders from August 12 to 14, 2016. The location is still to be determined.

Additionally, parents and youth alike are invited to attend First Presbyterian Church of Fort Lauderdale's worship services on Sunday, June 5, 2016, for Youth Sunday when the young adult members of the congregation will lead worship. Traditional services will be held at 8:30 a.m. in Chapel-in-the-Sky and at 11 a.m. in the Sanctuary. The contemporary worship service will be held at 9:30 a.m. in Fellowship Hall.
