Fort Worth-Based Galderma Donates 1,600 Backpacks Filled with Schools Supplies to Northwest ISD Students

Effort brings to life Nestlé and Galderma's ongoing commitment to supporting both local and global communities

FORT WORTH, Texas, Aug. 10, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Galderma is continuing its commitment to the local community by donating 1,600 backpacks filled with school supplies to Northwest ISD students in need. Galderma employees stuff 1,600 backpacks full of supplies for NISD students as part of Nestlé and Galderma's ongoing commitment to supporting its local community.

The 1,600 backpacks stuffed with school supplies donated by employees will be assembled by Galderma employees in the school cafeteria of NISD's Gene Pike Middle School on August 10^th. More than 35 pallets of supplies will be delivered to the middle school from the Galderma distribution center in Fort Worth in an 18-wheeler donated by Bridgestone. The community involvement initiative is part of the 2017 Nestlé Cares national day of volunteering, which will see 6,000 Nestlé employees around the country take part in community service and support programs on August 10^th.

"No student should be prohibited from learning because of a lack of basic school supplies," said Miles Harrison, North America president and general manager. "At Galderma, we understand the importance of being invested in our local community and are proud of our ongoing partnership with NISD. In 2016, employees had a goal of donating 150 backpacks with supplies to NISD. They exceeded that goal by donating 1,250 backpacks filled with supplies. This year, they have outdone themselves again. This year's donation, an increase of 28 percent from 2016, means that an additional 350 students in need will receive backpacks and supplies to start out the school year. I couldn't be more proud of Galderma employees and their commitment to schools and students in our community."

"Galderma employees not only donated the 1,600 backpacks and supplies to Northwest ISD, we are also physically assembling each of the backpacks ourselves from the lists of supplies needed for students in elementary, middle, and high school," said Zhanelle Wall, Senior Purchasing Specialist, who has worked on the backpack drive since it began. "We will have an 'assembly line' at Pike Middle School and work together until all 1,600 are assembled. This is a team effort and I am proud to be part of a company that supports our efforts to be a part of the community."

In addition to the local school supply efforts, several Galderma employees traveled to South Africa in March where they volunteered at a school in the Limpopo region. While there, the employees were moved to improve the conditions for students there. The employees gathered $6,400 in donations for school supplies as part of the school supply drive for local students.

"These funds will be able to supply students at the Sterkrivier School with supplies for the entire year," said Caroline Kane, Key Account Manager for Galderma. "When I visited the school in South African I knew my colleagues would want to help as a part of our drive for local students and I am so proud of how they answered the call." The money will be presented to the school in South Africa later this month.
