Free GED Classes Offered at CSI Campuses in Chicago, Elgin & Gurnee
6-Week GED Prep Complements CSI's 8-Month Career Programs
CHICAGO, Sept. 7, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Computer Systems Institute (CSI) campuses in Chicago, Elgin and Gurnee are now offering free GED preparation classes for CSI career program students who lack a high school diploma. The new GED classes prepare students to take the General Education Development (GED) test, the nationally accepted equivalent of a high school diploma, to enhance their employment opportunities upon completion of CSI's eight-month information technology, healthcare and business administration programs.
"Up to 20% of our students have no high school diploma or GED when they enroll. That could disqualify them for many jobs as well as jeopardize their eligibility to take certain career certification exams," said Ella Zibitsker, CSI President and CEO. "Adding free GED preparation to our curriculum complements our mission of helping students put themselves in the best possible position to find employment."
CSI's GED classes are available on a rolling basis throughout the year, enabling students to begin at any time. Among the highlights:
- The program includes both online and instructor-led study, covering math, science, social studies, reading, writing and the U.S. Constitution; and
- Also included are GED practice tests, enabling students to practice with authentic GED sample test questions.
- Course completion qualifies students to take the GED test at an official GED testing center and receive a GED diploma from the state.
The program complements other ancillary services offered by CSI, including stipends for academic performance, no-charge retakes of failed classes, clothing swaps, and other support to help students succeed. CSI also covers the cost of certification exams for the school's graduates, including CompTIA, Network+, MCP, MCSA, National Healthcareer Association and American Medical Technologist exams for employment as network system administrators, medical assistants and healthcare administrative assistants.
CSI has served more than 10,000 Chicago-area graduates since 1989. In addition to the career programs offered at campuses in the Chicago Loop, Elgin and Gurnee, the school offers English-as-a-Second-Language programs in Skokie, Wheeling and Lombard. CSI is accredited by the North Central Association, licensed by the Illinois State Board of Education, approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs to accept the GI bill, and a Microsoft IT Academy.
