Freudenberg North America Hosts Go Red For Women® Kick-off Event

PLYMOUTH, Mich., Jan. 29, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Freudenberg North America is hosting a Go Red rally and lighting ceremony on February 6 from 11:30 am - 12:30 pm at its Regional Corporate Center. The event kicks-off American Heart Month in southeast Michigan. The event is free with RSVP to [email protected].

Leesa Smith, Freudenberg North America president and regional representative and this year's local Go Red For Women® co-chair, Annette Scriberras, national Go Red For Women® spokesperson and Nancy Conzelman, Plymouth Township clerk, will take part in the event.

The lighting ceremony will be followed by a lunch-and-learn session. A variety of resources on healthy heart habits and heart disease prevention will be available to attendees.

Becoming an advocate for women's heart health may have been destiny for Sciberras. The 53-year-old has dealt with heart issues -- for herself and others  -- her entire life. Despite being a cardiac nurse who possesses detailed knowledge about heart disease, Sciberras let her own heart health get away from her as she got older.

"In retrospect, I know the signs were all there -- I see patients with heart disease every day," Sciberras says. "But I was juggling my four children, a demanding job and my parents' declining health, and I just ignored the chest pains I was having."

Her message to female patients, family and friends: "Heart disease can happen to anyone, anytime and anywhere, but we can fight it through our awareness and actions."
