To bring findings to life, Peerspace introduces a new Social Connection Quiz helping people discover their unique connection style
SAN FRANCISCO, Oct. 14, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- Today Peerspace, the leading marketplace for hourly venue rentals for events, meetings, and productions, announces the launch of new research on the health benefits of social connection, and an accompanying Social Connection Quiz, a research-driven tool designed to help people understand how they connect best and inspire them to gather more often.
The study launches at a critical time: According to a 2025 Pew Research report, 16% of U.S. adults feel lonely or isolated most or all of the time. Studies show that chronic loneliness can carry the same health risks as smoking 15 cigarettes a day, and Americans are now spending 20 fewer hours per month with friends than they did just two decades ago.
Developed in partnership with research psychologist Dave Smallen, a leading specialist in relationships and human connection, the research highlights that while social connection is essential to mental and physical health, how we connect varies widely. Healthy social connection depends on getting the right mix of interactions that meet our individual social needs. The new quiz introduces eight distinct social connection personality types – from The Deep Diver to The Silly Goose – each reflecting a unique way people experience and seek out connection.
Smallen explains, "Humans are wired to connect. Our relationships help us thrive mentally, emotionally, and physically—but not everyone connects in the same way. This quiz helps people better understand how they like to engage with others, so they can create more fulfilling moments of connection."
"Over 15 million people have celebrated meaningful life moments in Peerspaces, and we know how powerful and reinvigorating these gatherings can be," says Peerspace CMO Luke Tarbi. "The new quiz is designed to help people understand their unique connection style so they can learn more about themselves and how to make the most of their time together."
Peerspace Launches the Social Connection Quiz to Combat Rising Disconnection
The quiz was developed in response to growing national concerns about disconnection, and Peerspace's unique position as a company that facilitates millions of social interactions across the globe. By identifying one of eight social styles, the quiz encourages users to embrace their preferred way of connecting — whether that's a high-energy party, a cozy dinner, a creative workshop, or something in between. The eight connection types include: The Deep Diver, Ride or Die, Human Disco Ball, Hangout Hero, Silly Goose, Idea Explorer, Adventure Buddy, and Team Captain. Each result is paired with gathering ideas tailored to the connection type and a curated collection of Peerspace venues to match.
This initiative is grounded in the belief that meaningful social connection isn't one-size-fits-all. Research used in the development of the quiz shows that while regular social interaction can boost mood, reduce stress, and even help people live longer, not everyone connects the same way – and understanding your unique connection style can lead to more enjoyable, healthy and reinvigorating social gatherings.
