WASHINGTON, Aug. 17, 2015 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Students at Friendship Public Charter School Online (FPCSO), an accredited, full-time, online public charter school, will begin their 2015-2016 school year on August 24th.

FPCSO is a program of Friendship Public Charter School and is available tuition-free to students in grades K–8 who are residents of the District of Columbia. By combining individualized online instruction, hands-on curriculum and the support of highly qualified Washington, D.C. certified teachers, FPCSO helps students discover their individual learning style. Students who enroll at FPCSO follow an academic program that includes engaging web-based lessons along with age-appropriate instructional materials – books, videos, CDs and other hands-on tools and resources – which are shipped directly to each student's home. The rigorous and engaging curriculum includes courses in language arts/English, math, science, history, five world languages, art and music. Students can also choose to participate in dozens of extracurricular activities and clubs that cover a wide variety of interests.

"Online learning is ideal for students who want to move ahead a little faster than a traditional classroom can permit, military families who may be looking for more continuity of education as they move, and even students who need a flexible schedule to allow them to hone an extracurricular passion like athletics or writing," said Tracy Sloane, Head of School for FPCSO. "We offer an exceptional learning experience for each and every one of our students."

FPCSO teachers provide instruction, guidance and support, and regularly interact with students and parents via email, web-based classrooms, online discussions, phone and face-to-face opportunities at the Nicholson Street location. Teachers also organize numerous field trips and school activities where students have the option to participate in events that blend academics and socialization.

FPCSO is still accepting K-8 enrollments for this fall and is holding online and in-person information sessions. Upcoming events include:

  • Meet and Greet Event: 4 PM August 21 at Yards Park Dock, 100 Potomac Ave., SE
