MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., Oct. 25, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Based on its recent analysis of the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT)-based Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES) market for discrete manufacturing, Frost & Sullivan recognizes MPDV Mikrolab GmbH (MPDV) with the 2016 Global Award for Customer Value Leadership. The systems are Internet protocol (IP)-enabled and can automatically capture the process data of any sensor or machine control.
To simplify the integration of MES solutions, MPDV developed an exclusive standard interface between MES and machine manufacturers: the Universal Machine Connectivity for MES (UMCM). It acts as a sustainable plug-and-play connector, eliminating the need for facility studies and for programming the interfaces of machines of any vintage or make.
An outstandingly innovative feature of MPDV's solution is an edge gateway scenario, which provides an unmatched, continuous interface between the IT cloud and edge cloud. The gateway also acts as a barrier between them to protect the edge cloud from bandwidth- and hardware-related problems. It can also host security features to regulate the data flow between the IT cloud and private cloud. Data acquisition functionalities of HYDRA can be installed on the edge gateway providing real-time communication.
MPDV has also built a strong, IIoT-based hardware partner ecosystem, helping it optimize several production- and logistics-related solutions. For instance, it successfully employed the optical character recognition (OCR) systems in the metallurgy industry to identify hot objects from the furnace. The HYDRA platform is also capable of tracking movable assets within the factory and has built-in escalation management and alert engine modules.
