Frost & Sullivan Lauds Advanced Analytical for Developing the Revolutionary Fragment Analyzer for High-quality Sample Analyses
With parallel, scalable throughput, the platform eliminates the frustrating and time-consuming bottlenecks in upstream sample analysis that slows laboratory workflows
MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., Jan. 28, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Based on its recent review of the sample analysis market, Frost & Sullivan recognizes Advanced Analytical Technologies, Inc. (AATI) with the 2014 North American Frost & Sullivan Award for New Product Innovation for the Fragment Analyzer™. The Fragment Analyzer is a best-in-class, multi-channel, automated fluorescence-based capillary electrophoresis detection system for the simultaneous analysis of the quantity and quality of nucleic acids.
"We are honored to be the recipient of this prestigious award from Frost & Sullivan. The Fragment Analyzer was designed and built with end users first in mind," said Dr. Steven Lasky, CEO of AATI. "Many of our employees involved in developing and bringing the Fragment Analyzer to market have spent their entire working career gaining the required expertise for such an accomplishment. Having witnessed this tireless effort firsthand it is difficult to put into words what this award affirms to them."
The Fragment Analyzer proprietary technology allows it to streamline sample processing steps, analyze polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and next-generation sequencing (NGS) library DNA fragments, total and messenger RNA, genomic DNA and DNA mutation detection assays all under one footprint. It has the highest throughput and flexibility among similar technologies in the market and provides numerous other advantages and value additions including high resolution, reduced time to results, lower hands-on time and run costs, and scalable throughput.
"The use of intercalating dye as the fluorescent source alleviates the need for costly and problematic labeled primers. Two easily interchangeable capillary array lengths, 55 centimeters and 80 centimeters, offer simple tailoring of separation times and resolution," said Frost & Sullivan Senior Industry Analyst, Christi Bird. "Shorter arrays provide fast, 15-minute results when high resolution is not required. The longer arrays provide highly precise, high resolution, down to two base pairs."
Furthermore, AATI recognized that instrument sharing often occurs within laboratories where multiple end users employ different downstream applications. The company recognized that this instrument sharing creates backlogs in the laboratory. Based on the Fragment Analyzer's proprietary design, end users can run samples as soon as needed rather than wait for the instrument's availability. In addition, the instrument can continue to run samples overnight, thereby optimizing laboratory efficiency. This amounts to a market-leading capacity of up to 1,500 samples per day.
"Not all labs are created equal; available resources, both human and financial, often dictate when and sometimes if research gets completed," said Lasky. "The reality is though, that when it comes to the research being conducted via sequencing today, researchers shouldn't be asked to prioritize potential lifesaving discoveries because of limitations imposed by outdated technology. If just one of our customers is able to positively impact a life by utilizing the Fragment Analyzer's unparalleled workflow attributes, then haven't we enabled something greater?"
"Advanced Analytical did not just settle for addressing a few unmet needs; they tackled technology improvement, flexibility issues, and laboratory workflow challenges in a single instrument," noted Bird. "With its highly innovative and market-changing platform, Frost & Sullivan expects the company to gain further traction in the global marketplace beyond the hundreds of instruments already placed."
Each year, Frost & Sullivan presents this award to the company that has developed an innovative element in a product by leveraging leading-edge technologies. The award recognizes the value-added features/benefits of the product, and the increased ROI it offers customers, which in turn increases customer acquisition and overall market penetration potential.
Frost & Sullivan Best Practices Awards recognize companies in a variety of regional and global markets for demonstrating outstanding achievement and superior performance in areas such as leadership, technological innovation, customer service, and strategic product development. Industry analysts compare market participants and measure performance through in-depth interviews, analysis, and extensive secondary research in order to identify best practices in the industry.
