Ft. Lauderdale High School to Bring Jobs and Higher Graduation Rates

LAUDERDALE, Fla., Aug. 13 /PRNewswire/ -- Frank Biden, Board Member of Mavericks in Education Florida, LLC announced the Broward County location of the high-tech high school designed to offer students a unique alternative to traditional schools, tuition free. The unique 21st Century, school will be part of the Broward County Public School system with first year capacity to handle up to 400 students in two daily sessions each. According to Biden, this will be the fifth Mavericks High in Florida. This school offers an "out-of-the box" approach to education which promises to increase graduation rates and offer students who are not succeeding in the traditional school environment an alternative setting and approach to successfully graduate with a high school diploma.

"Our approach is three-fold," said Biden. "First and foremost we want all of our students to receive a state-recognized high school diploma by passing the FCAT and earning the required 24 credits. Second, we will be providing students with employment preparation skills and helping them find jobs; and third, we will make sure each student has a plan for continuing education, college, trade school, military or fulltime employment."

The design of Mavericks High School is geared toward offering students individualized learning that allows them to work at private computer terminals and proceed at their own paces. The latest in computer-based learning technology will be in place and curriculum will be directed by state-certified teachers.
