Fundacion Azteca Raises Ps $73.4 Million for Mexican Red Cross During the 59th Movimiento Azteca Fundraising and Awareness Drive

MEXICO CITY, Oct. 5 /PRNewswire/ -- Grupo Salinas - a group of dynamic, fast-growing and technologically advanced companies deeply committed to the modernization of the countries in which they operate - founded by Ricardo Salinas (www.ricardosalinas.com), is proud to announce the results of the 59th Movimiento Azteca fundraising and awareness campaign, where Ps $73.4 million was donated to the Mexican Red Cross.

Thanks to individual and corporate donations the initial goal of Ps $25 million was exceeded by almost three times. The money will be used to acquire more than 100 new ambulances. It is calculated that the new ambulances will allow the Mexican Red Cross to will be able to serve more than 200,000 people in life-threatening situations.

This Movimiento Azteca campaign is a joint effort between Nacional Monte de Piedad, Fundacion Azteca, and the Mexican Red Cross to renovate the Red Cross ambulance fleet. The ambulances and emergency units will be delivered in 2011.

Daniel Goni, President of the Mexican Red Cross, received the check from Esteban Moctezuma, Executive President of Fundacion Azteca, during a ceremony held last week. They were accompanied by Gustavo Mendez Tapia, spokesman for Nacional Monte de Piedad, and Raul Medina Mora, board member of Nacional Monte de Piedad.
