TORONTO, Aug. 7, 2013 /CNW Telbec/ - Colourful dragon dances, a festive parade, and free introductory classes for the public will mark Fung Loy Kok Taoist Tai Chi™ International Awareness Day 2013 on Thursday, August 8, which will be held in downtown Toronto's Yonge-Dundas Square starting at 9:00 am. The theme of the festivities is Lift Your Spirit, Renovate Your Body, which speaks to the unique mind-body health and healing benefits practitioners of this ancient internal art experience. As health reporter Jane Brody wrote in the New York Times, "After reviewing existing scientific evidence for its potential health benefits, I've concluded that the proper question to ask yourself may not be why you should practice tai chi, but why not."  What are you waiting for?

Free public classes will begin at 9:00 am and start every 30 minutes until 1:30 pm. All are welcome to learn the first few moves of the set, while demos, speeches and the parade take place. Special guests who will address the crowd starting at 10 am include: Members of Parliament Judy Sgro (York West) and Chungsen Leung (Willowdale); Jeff Izzo of the Political Economic Section of the US Consulate; City of Toronto Councilors Norm Kelly (Scarborough-Agincourt), Chin Lee (Scarborough-Rouge River) and Sandra Yeung-Rocco (Vaughan Ward 4). Also speaking is Trevor Roberts, the executive director of the Arthritis Society of Toronto.

More than an exercise club, Fung Loy Kok is a member organization whose aims and objectives are to make the Taoist Tai Chi™ arts available to all, to promote the health-improving qualities of these arts, to promote cultural exchange, and to help others. About Fung Loy Kok Institute of Taoism
Fung Loy Kok originated in a temple co-founded by Master Moy Lin Shin and Mr. Mui Ming-to in Tsuen Wan, Hong Kong in 1968. The temple's teachings are deeply rooted in the ancient spiritual traditions and culture of China. Fung Loy Kok follows the teachings of Confucianism, Buddhism and Taoism.
