Furnace Sizing Explained In HelloNation Featuring HVAC Expert Reid Sittler

The article outlines how Akron homeowners can select the right furnace for comfort, efficiency, and long-term reliability during Ohio winters.

AKRON, Ohio, Oct. 1, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- What factors matter most when choosing the right furnace for an Akron, Ohio home? HelloNation has published the piece, which provides the answer in an article featuring insights from Quality Heating & Cooling's HVAC expert, Reid Sittler of Akron, Ohio.

The HelloNation article explains that furnace sizing is one of the most important decisions a homeowner can make when planning a furnace installation or furnace replacement. In Akron, Ohio, where winters can bring extended periods of cold, a heating system must be able to handle steady demand without overworking or cycling inefficiently.

Reid Sittler, an HVAC Expert, describes how furnace sizing depends on more than just square footage. It notes that each home in Akron, Ohio, has unique characteristics, including insulation levels, ceiling height, window quality, and air leakage. These factors all affect how much heat a home retains and how hard a furnace must work to maintain comfort.

According to the article, choosing the wrong size can lead to performance issues. A unit that is too small may run continuously and still fail to keep rooms warm during Ohio winters. A system that is too large may heat too quickly and shut off frequently, leading to uneven temperatures and added wear. The article emphasizes that proper furnace sizing supports comfort, efficiency, and the lifespan of a reliable furnace.

The article also highlights the importance of professional evaluation during furnace installation. It explains that contractors should perform load calculations rather than rely on rough estimates. This process examines heat loss, airflow, and duct condition to ensure the system meets the home's actual needs. HVAC experts note that this step is critical for achieving consistent performance.

Efficiency is another major consideration discussed in the article. It explains that many homeowners in Akron, Ohio, look to a high-efficiency gas furnace to reduce energy waste during long heating seasons. Furnace efficiency is measured by AFUE, which indicates how effectively the furnace converts fuel into usable heat. A higher AFUE rating can help lower energy use, especially during extended Ohio winters.

HVAC Expert Reid Sittle notes that efficiency decisions should be balanced with the home's condition. Older homes may benefit from insulation upgrades alongside furnace replacement, while newer homes may already support a high-efficiency gas furnace. HVAC experts emphasize that combining proper furnace sizing with efficiency improvements yields the best results.

Fuel type is also addressed as a key factor. The article explains that many systems in Akron, Ohio, rely on natural gas, though some homes use electric heat pumps, propane, or dual fuel systems. The best choice depends on availability, operating costs, and performance in colder temperatures.

Reliability is another theme explored in the article. It states that a reliable furnace depends not only on the equipment but also on proper furnace installation, airflow, and ongoing furnace maintenance. Even a well-built system can underperform if it is not installed correctly or maintained regularly. HVAC experts highlight that routine furnace maintenance helps prevent breakdowns and supports long-term efficiency.

The condition of ductwork is also discussed. The article explains that leaky or undersized ducts can reduce performance, even with a new system. Evaluating ductwork during furnace replacement helps ensure that warm air is distributed effectively throughout the home.

Comfort features such as variable-speed blowers and two-stage heating are also covered. These features can help reduce temperature swings and improve airflow, making a system quieter and more consistent during Ohio winters.

The article concludes that the right furnace for an Akron, Ohio, home is one that is properly sized, efficiently installed, and well-maintained. Careful planning and attention to these factors can help homeowners achieve dependable performance and lasting comfort.
