MUNICH, April 13, 2016 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Advanced innovations and impressive engineering achievements in all shapes and sizes of equipment are on display at the world's largest construction equipment exposition – bauma 2016 - in Munich. The expo features the workhorses of the construction, mining and earth moving industries.

The diesel engine that powers nearly all off-road equipment has undergone a complete transformation to near-zero emissions meeting new stringent U.S. and European standards.
"Many of the engines and equipment on display meet and exceed these clean standards," said Schaeffer. "Several manufacturers have already announced compliance with the even more stringent Euro V standards that kick-in for engines manufactured beginning in 2019."
The Euro V standards couple near-zero requirements for emissions of oxides of nitrogen (NOx) with closer to zero standards for particulate matter (PM).
Signals from Governments Are to Ensure Full Emissions Compliance and Reduce Greenhouse Gas Emissions
"There is great anticipation at bauma 2016 for improving market and economic conditions in the construction and mining sectors all around the world so that the benefits of these new more efficient and cleaner technologies can be fully realized," Schaeffer said. "Today, signals from governments are to ensure full emissions compliance and to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Customers have the expectation of greater performance and more fuel efficiency for their new equipment. Today, manufacturers of clean diesel technology completely satisfy both demands and more.
"What we're seeing this year are advancements in three key areas: enhancements of existing technologies to achieve incremental gains in performance, efficiency, emissions reduction and/or packaging; demonstration of new clean diesel technology designed to meet the 2019 emissions standards (stage V) in Europe; and the increasing role of systems integration and big data, how manufacturers are using new data capabilities to integrate the work, the jobsite and machine operation.

Continuing adoption of hybrid and energy storage systems, where diesel engines act like electrical generators, running in steady-state modes for fuel efficiency is also a trend here. Highlights of the Expo Include:
AGCO is participating through their Fendt brand and showcasing Fendt's new 800 Vario Series tractors that feature a twin turbo-charger design for improved performance and efficiency.
Bosch is presenting its innovative solutions for commercial vehicles that considerably cut operating costs and also reduce the emissions from engines in the off-highway segment, including its e-drive for off-highway engines and energy recovery systems for hybrid vehicles, as well as componentry for emissions regulation compliance.
Caterpillar is unveiling its "The Age of Smart Iron" strategy for developing digital solutions that will improve productivity, efficiency, safety and profitability for customers as well as three new pavers that are built with intuitive, accessible technology and a quick-heating screed system that increases productivity and reduces idle time.
CNH Industrial/Case is displaying its offering for the urban construction, road building, aggregates and recycling applications including five new models to its D Series crawler excavator range which feature Tier 4 Final engines with no DPF and an improved hydraulics control system for enhanced control and operation.
Cummins is showcasing its next generation of engines designed to meet Stage V emissions regulations while also providing up to a 10 percent improvement in power and torque and a three percent reduction in fuel consumption. Cummins is also introducing four new engine models capable of meeting Stage V and Tier 4 Final emissions regulations without the use of an EGR.
Daimler AG is exhibiting vehicles for virtually every conceivable application and how to keep those vehicles in the construction industry and ancillary trades in technically reliable condition.
John Deere is leveraging new catalyst technologies and emissions control calibrations to enable downsizing of their aftertreatment. The John Deere modular building block approach to emission control is proven and has led to a DPF solution that is capable of complying with the requirements indicated in the EU Commission's proposal COM (2014)581 concerning Stage V emissions.
MTU is exhibiting engines developed jointly with Daimler to meet EU Stage V regulations and meet the new emission limits for soot particles using advanced internal engine technology, an SCR system and an additional diesel particulate filter.
MTU Onsite Energy is presenting mobile and stationary diesel gensets that are ideally suited to the generation of electric power on construction sites.
Yanmar is showcasing the latest wheel loader and carrier models and also boom concepts for compact excavators that enable quick and precise operation all with outstanding performance with low fuel consumption and reduced emissions.
Volvo Construction Equipment is unveiling several new flagship products – including the largest machines the company has ever made and the new A60H, the largest ever articulated hauler featuring a 55-tonne capacity which is a 40 percent increase over previous models.
Volvo Penta is displaying Stage IV/Tier 4 Final engines requiring only an SCR aftertreatment system to meet emissions requirements, helping simplify installation for OEMs as well as featuring a water-cooled turbo-charger for more dynamic performance in heavy-duty mobile application.
