GainSpan Partners with People Power to Develop Cloud Connectivity Solutions to Advance Energy Initiatives

SAN JOSE, Calif., March 26, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- GainSpan® Corporation, a leader in low power Wi-Fi and Wi-Fi connectivity for the Internet of Things, and People Power Company, a provider of cloud-based energy efficiency services, are partnering to develop a cloud connectivity solution to advance energy initiatives.  The solution, targeting residential and business customers, will enable system designers to easily connect Smart Energy devices to the cloud via Wi-Fi.  The solution will be showcased at DESIGN West, March 26 – 29, in San Jose, CA, in the Symmetry Electronics booth #2006. Sensors and actuators connected to the Internet via Wi-Fi will be remotely monitored and controlled from a smartphone connected wirelessly to the cloud via 3G.

By leveraging the power of the cloud and the ubiquity of Wi-Fi in residential and commercial environments, the joint solution makes it possible for developers to build connected devices that can capture data such as energy use from multiple sensors/devices and send it to the cloud where it is analyzed and priced using current tariffs. The results of the analysis could then be sent to an internet connected display, such as a PC or mobile phone, in the form of a graphical dashboard, alarms or messages.  M2M applications can also be enabled by activating automatic responses, under certain conditions.
