Game On! Learn How to Mix and Match Brownfield Tools at the Brownfields 2017 Conference
LANSING, Mich., Nov. 29, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- You have only 45 minutes to find a way to leverage over $1 million in funding to make your dream project happen. Though it sounds like a scene out of "24," this is part of the "The Leveraging Game," the interactive group activity that PM Environmental will be conducting at this year's National Brownfields Training Conference at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
On Tuesday, Dec. 5, at 3:15 p.m., Jessica DeBone and John Hargraves from PM's Brownfield team will be hosting "The Leveraging Game," where teams work together (and against each other) to come up with the best incentives and financing packages for a redevelopment project.
The National Brownfields Training Conference is offered every two years and co-sponsored by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the International City/County Management Association (ICMA). This year's event is Dec. 4 -7.
"We wanted to do something fun, but also educational," said Jessica DeBone, Brownfield & Economic Incentives Consultant. "We hope that everyone can learn from each other as they interact to understand on a big picture level how to fill financial gaps with potential incentive programs."
During the game, the teams will be given a redevelopment scenario with a financial shortfall. They are also given a "toolbox" of federal, state, and local incentives that can be used in certain situations. Since many nuances exist between these incentives, one of the keys to success will be understanding how they function - or don't function - together. Through discussion, teamwork, and compromise, each table will work through the scenario with the end goal being to reach a successful development, overcoming potential roadblocks. The game encourages participants to combine and share creative thinking and problem solving skills with their colleagues.
