SINGAPORE, July 29, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- GAO Capital ("GAO") announces strategic alliance with Straits Financial Group ("Straits") to collaborate on GAO Funds, a multi-strategy fund platform expected to launch September 1, 2015. GAO Funds offers investors the opportunity to invest in funds alongside GAO and partner families without the "heavy lifting" of sourcing, due diligence and risk management, yet with the flexibility of deciding on their preferred strategy exposure. A core strategy of the platform will be Structured Trade & Commodity Finance which is a niche and specialized area of financing that is tailored to and supports growing global trade. Trade finance loans provide stable and low volatile returns in addition to significant diversification benefits in overall portfolio allocation.
"We see the opportunity in trade finance with the retreat of the banks in the space, partly from Basel regulation forcing banks to hold more capital against trade finance loans. Straits' parentage in logistics and warehousing, coupled with their in-depth understanding of the commodities market, both physical and derivatives, would put us in a unique position to partake in structured trade transactions and seize relative value investing opportunities in the market," said Ms. Chauwei Yak, Chief Executive Officer of GAO.
"GAO has a world class investment business with deep knowledge of special situations and opportunistic investing," said Mr. Jeremy Ang, Chief Executive Officer of Straits. "We will be able to bring Straits to new greater heights with the access and support of GAO's global fund platform and the combined asset management expertise of the combined GAO and Straits teams across the trade finance and commodities markets.
GAO is an international investment office for global families and foundations. The firm is headquartered in Singapore and will be celebrating its 8th year of operations this year, having advised and invested in more than $1bn in alternative strategies.
Straits is the financial services arm of CWT Ltd (SGX: C14), one of the largest publicly listed logistics companies in Asia. Straits presents a comprehensive brokerage and 360-degree trade facilitation services, including risk management, collateralization, warehousing, and logistics.
