Gateway At UTC, Hyattsville, Md Announce New Tenants

PITTSBURGH, May 27, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- ECHO Realty and the Bernstein Companies are pleased to announce the two newest businesses to sign leases to join their Gateway at UTC project, MedStar Health and Town Center Wine & Spirits.  The Gateway at UTC is the Safeway-anchored, 2-story retail development currently under construction at University Town Center, the mixed-use, master planned development in Hyattsville, Maryland. The Gateway at UTC development is located along East-West Highway, between America Boulevard and Democracy Avenue.

MedStar will operate a primary care office and a MedStar PromptCare urgent care facility comprising 10,000 square feet on the second level of the commercial development. This newest MedStar center will complement existing services provided by MedStar at University Town Center. With the majority of parking situated on the second story, patrons will have convenient, drive-up access to both MedStar and Phenix Salon Suites, the other tenant to occupy the project's upper level. While some developers shy away from second floor retail spaces, this space is unique. "Most upper level space is not served by ample, adjacent parking more reminiscent of the convenience of a suburban development," stated Drew Gorman, Senior Vice President of Acquisitions and Development for ECHO Realty. "At Gateway at UTC, accessibility is paired with the density and design sensibilities of an urban development."

On the first floor, Town Center Wine & Spirits will occupy 3,600 square feet at the north end of the street level retail lining the east side of America Boulevard. "Finding a high quality purveyor of wine and spirits was very important to both this project and to Safeway," said Nicole Zupan, Director of Leasing for Gateway at UTC. "Town Center Wine & Spirits provides that niche, while filling an important end-cap position that will bridge the gap between this development and existing specialty shops and merchants located along America Boulevard."

MedStar and Town Center Wine & Spirits join other retailers including Safeway, Unleashed by Petco, Le's Nails, and Phenix Salon Suites. Currently, the project is 95% pre-leased with space available for one or two additional retail concepts. ECHO is currently seeking a signature dining establishment to occupy the high visibility endcap fronting East-West Highway.

Safeway is currently on schedule to open Fall 2015 with other retailers following shortly thereafter.
