GE Awards International Medical Corps $2.3 Million for Humanitarian Relief in Africa, Middle East

LOS ANGELES, March 1, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- International Medical Corps will scale up health care and nutrition programs for vulnerable communities across the Middle East and Northern and Eastern Africa with a $2.3 million gift from GE.

With GE's support, International Medical Corps will focus on these interventions:

• Having provided a comprehensive emergency response in Libya since the outbreak of conflict one year ago, International Medical Corps will scale up access to primary health care services for hardest-hit communities. 
• In response to an influx of Syrian refugees into Lebanon, International Medical Corps will provide health services and emergency psychological first aid trainings to frontline responders.
• In Yemen, International Medical Corps will establish two stabilization centers to treat children with acute malnutrition and conduct community outreach and nutrition education. 
• In response to the ongoing drought and hunger emergency in East Africa, International Medical Corps, will increase services to treat and manage malnutrition in Ethiopia, Kenya, and Somalia.
