SAN FRANCISCO, Sept. 2, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- Generate Capital, PBC ("Generate"), a leading infrastructure investment firm, today announced the appointment of David Crane as Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of the board, marking a new chapter as the firm positions itself to capitalize on opportunities in a rapidly evolving energy market.
David will be taking over from Generate co-founder Scott Jacobs, who has served as CEO for more than a decade. During Scott's tenure, Generate grew into a recognized leader in advancing the energy transition, distinguished by its financial strength and operational excellence.
"We are deeply grateful to Scott for more than a decade of visionary leadership that built Generate into a trusted partner in sustainable infrastructure," said Richard Kauffman, former Chairman and current Independent Director of Generate Capital. "Today, the Board is excited to welcome David into the CEO role. Generate was founded on the belief that combining operators and investors creates the best opportunity to deliver value to shareholders and fund investors while advancing the energy transition. We are fortunate David has chosen to dedicate the next phase of his career to continuing to build Generate into a critical resource for our partners, investors, and the communities we serve."
Mr. Crane added, "I chose Generate because of its operational excellence, uncompromising commitment to the energy transition, and dedicated team. Our core strengths—an operator's mindset, strong balance sheet, capital flexibility, and deep market insight—are especially valuable in today's environment. In the near term, we will focus on maximizing value in our portfolio, investing in high performing assets, and building our credit business. I am honored to lead Generate in this next phase and committed to delivering long-term value to our stakeholders."
David brings more than two decades of experience in the energy sector. He has served as CEO of five publicly traded energy companies, earning recognition as Energy Industry CEO of the Year by EnergyBiz in 2010 and as the top CEO in the energy sector by Institutional Investor in 2011. Immediately prior to joining Generate, he was Under Secretary for Infrastructure at the U.S. Department of Energy. He currently serves on the board of JERA Co., Inc. and is a former director of Saudi Electric Company, ACWA Power, and Tata Steel. He is a graduate of Harvard Law School and Princeton University.
