Geosyntec Consultants Announces Acquisition of Rainwater Recovery Inc.
ATLANTA, March 8 /PRNewswire/ -- Geosyntec Consultants, Inc. (www.geosyntec.com) announced today the acquisition of the assets of Rainwater Recovery Inc. of Waltham, Mass., a specialty consulting firm focused on the design of rainwater harvesting and integrated stormwater management systems. Geosyntec regards the acquisition as an important step in the expansion of the firm's service offerings in the water and natural resources sector.
Rainwater Recovery was founded by Philip Reidy, PE, six years ago. With the acquisition, Mr. Reidy joins Geosyntec based in the firm's Brookline, Mass., office. Rainwater Recovery successfully brought Mr. Reidy's approach to the marketplace by focusing on rainwater harvesting systems -- a low impact development (LID) technique designed to optimize the collection and reuse of stormwater as a substitute for purchased or centrally supplied water -- particularly for non-potable applications such as irrigation, sewage conveyance, cooling tower make-up, and various industrial demands.
"Combining harvesting expertise with a broad water and natural resources practice such as Geosyntec's offers clients of both organizations an expanded suite of capabilities to address stormwater management issues. The combination of these two practices in the implementation of integrated water management systems gives stakeholders more LID options to tackle our most challenging water resource management issues," said Mr. Reidy.
Rainwater harvesting is promoted in green building design, in LEED™ (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) building certifications, and in new local stormwater and permitting regulations as well as in new federal facility mandates requiring energy efficiency, water conservation, and water reuse in the federal building marketplace. This new emphasis on rainwater harvesting is expected to grow dramatically over the next several years as architects, engineers, and facility managers strive to meet these new requirements. Rainwater Recovery has designed and installed over 100 rainwater recovery systems and is a leading expert in the design and application of this technology.
Rainwater Recovery's staff joins Geosyntec's team of specialists in water resources management nationwide, who are committed to the application of LID design principles as a superior approach to the "concrete and culvert" philosophy in protecting the nation's water resources from the impacts of stormwater flows.
Geosyntec, founded in 1983, provides consulting engineering and science services throughout the United States and internationally. With more than 45 offices in the U.S. and select international locations, Geosyntec engineers and scientists are known for their technology leadership and practice innovation in the areas of geotechnical and geoenvironmental engineering, contaminated site assessment and remediation, groundwater assessment and remediation, risk assessment and toxicology, urban stormwater management, water and natural resources management, solid waste disposal facility permitting and design, and environmental biotechnology.
