RICHMOND, Va., Nov. 12, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- To show its appreciation of the many military veterans who continue to serve their country in the trucking industry, Getloaded, an industry-leading load board, has partnered with Operation Homefront, a national nonprofit organization providing emergency financial and other assistance to military families and wounded warriors.
Starting in November, Getloaded will publish profiles of truck drivers, dispatchers, load brokers, and transportation managers who have served in the U.S. Armed Forces. For each veteran profiled, Getloaded will donate $250 in that person's name to Operation Homefront.
Of the 2.08 million veterans in the workforce who served on active duty in the U.S. Armed Forces since September 2001, about 137,000 work in transportation and "material moving occupations," according to U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. That number increases to more than one million when veterans from all service periods are included.
"There is a long history of veterans in trucking, and they're needed now more than ever," said Butch Sarma, Getloaded product manager and Army veteran. "Military skills transfer well, particularly the importance of taking care of the essential equipment whether it's a rifle or a truck. Whether you're supplying an army during a time of war or a civilian population that depends on transportation for its food, medicine, and housing, logistics matter."
