BROOKLYN, N.Y., Feb. 9, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- GIBC Digital announced today that it will join Google and Boeing to sponsor Brooklyn Technical High School's Robotics Team. The team, known as the TechKnights, is focused on its annual participation in the FIRST Robotics Competition, and sponsorship funds are used to cover costs related to the competition.
According to the TechKnight's web site, Dean Kamen founded the FIRST organization in 1989, with the purpose of transforming our culture by creating a world where science and technology are celebrated and where young people dream of becoming science and technology leaders. Each year, it challenges teams to design, build, wire, and program a robot within a six-week time period. The build season culminates in regional competitions, as well as a final championship. The mission of this competition is to encourage and inspire participants to pursue STEM-related fields.
When asked why GIBC Digital decided to sponsor the team, the company's CEO, Greg Wood, said, "these students will build the future, and we want to support the next generation of innovators and makers here in Brooklyn." Wood continued, "the values of competitive cooperation that FIRST instills in participants are essential qualities for leaders of tomorrow to embrace, so we support the FIRST competition not only because of what students are learning to do, but how they are learning to do it." GIBC Digital is headquartered in the DUMBO section of Brooklyn.
