Global Consumer Electronics Manufacturer Haier Opening Tech Center in Evansville

EVANSVILLE, Ind., Sept. 8, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Haier America, a division of the multinational home appliance and consumer electronics manufacturer Haier Group, announced plans today to locate its North American Tech Center here, creating 50 new high-wage jobs by 2015.

Headquartered in New Jersey, Haier America will initially establish a new 30,000 square-foot product research and development tech center in Evansville. With facility renovations to begin immediately, the new tech center is expected to open its doors by early 2015, focusing on support and development for Haier's North American market including appliances, home comfort products and home entertainment products.

"With their decision, Haier America will gain a central U.S. location, along with taxes and other business expenses designed for affordability. Haier America currently employs more than 300 associates across the country, with its parent Haier employing more than 70,000 people around the world. The Indiana Economic Development Corporation offered Haier America Trading, LLC up to $1,400,000 in conditional tax credits and up to $450,000 in training grants based on the company's job creation plans. These tax credits are performance-based, meaning until Hoosiers are hired, the company is not eligible to claim incentives. The city of Evansville is also offering incentives.
