Global ITAD: The Good, The Bad and The Ugly

The summit, which runs from September 8 through September 10, is focused on information technology and all business aspects related to asset management, from acquisition through retirement.

Implementing a global ITAD program has its challenges. When done correctly, there are numerous benefits. When poorly conceived, there can be missed value recovery opportunities and potential for negative environmental impact. Of course, if the data erasure component is not correctly applied, things could get ugly.

Organizations with large enterprise and data center systems require ITAD solutions for their end-of-life and retired IT assets. This session will provide insights for properly implementing ITAD programs, both domestically and internationally. The requirement for consistency at each processing location is an obvious goal. The need for uniformity across multiple locations is a bit less obvious but more important.

In order to have ITAD processing consistency at any individual site, resource training is required. With consistency comes better record keeping (traceability) and less dependence on each individual resource for specific processing operations. Uniformity is the result of performing processes identically at various locations. Lack of uniformity can negatively impact your business whether through variations in processing sequences, poor documentation, or worse yet, resources making individual judgment calls when determining the health of loose ITAD components such as hard drives.

Aidin Aghamiri's presentation, scheduled for Monday, September 8 at 6:45 PM on the show floor in Florida F Showcase Theater, will focus on what is good, what is bad, and what could potentially have a large negative impact on businesses in the absence of consistent, proactive ITAD planning and processes.
