New local plan was created to meet the needs of Ventura County's Medi-Medi members
CAMARILLO, Calif., Oct. 1, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- Starting today, Ventura County residents with both Medi-Cal and Medicare coverage will be able to choose to have their care coordinated under one integrated plan from Gold Coast Health Plan (GCHP).
GCHP Total Care Advantage (HMO D-SNP) is a Medicare Advantage Special Needs Plan for low-income seniors and people with disabilities who qualify for both Medicare and Medi-Cal – known as Medi-Medi members. Total Care Advantage is designed to support members by offering care coordination to help with accessing needed services, scheduling appointments, and managing chronic conditions.
"After 14 years of serving Ventura County Medi-Cal members, we are excited to launch a new line of business in the form of a new integrated health plan that will remove the barriers that exist when a person's care is fragmented between two different plans," said Dr. Felix Nuñez, GCHP's chief executive officer (CEO). "We are proud to offer our community a new integrated Medi-Medi plan that was created by the same local team they have trusted for more than a decade."
Starting in 2026, Medi-Medi plans will be open for enrollment in most counties in California as part of a state Department of Health Care Services (DHCS) initiative aimed at integrating care for dually eligible members under the California Advancing and Innovating Medi-Cal (CalAIM) program.
GCHP currently has about 27,000 Medi-Medi members who receive care and services through other Medicare plans. By joining Total Care Advantage, members will receive their Medi-Cal benefits, like dental, vision and transportation, along with Medicare benefits, such as inpatient hospital and skilled nursing facility coverage – plus supplemental benefits, like hearing exams and hearing aids, gym membership, community and social supports, and more – all without premiums or co-pays. Total Care Advantage also offers a Part D prescription benefit with low or no co-pays (depending on the drug).
"Total Care Advantage will allow us to provide quality care and services for a segment of our population that has had GCHP as a secondary plan," said Eve Gelb, GCHP's chief innovation officer. "By bringing all of the benefits together and offering extra support, we aim to enhance the quality of life of our members."
To enroll in Total Care Advantage, prospective members must:
- Live in Ventura County.
- Be 21 years of age or older.
- Have both Medicare Parts A and B.
- Have full-scope Medi-Cal.
Open enrollment for Total Care Advantage is from Oct. 15, 2025, through Dec. 7, 2025. Beyond this period, those who qualify for this type of special needs plan may enroll during any given month.
