Good Greek Founder Spero Georgedakis Remembers Childhood Friend John Katsimatides on 25th Anniversary of 9/11

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla., Sept. 11, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- As the nation marks the 25th anniversary of the September 11 terrorist attacks, Good Greek Moving & Storage Founder and CEO Spero Georgedakis is honoring the memory of his childhood friend and longtime schoolmate, John A. Katsimatides, who was killed in the World Trade Center at just 31 years old.

For Georgedakis, September 11 has always carried a deeply personal meaning.

Georgedakis and Katsimatides grew up together as neighborhood friends and attended school together from kindergarten through 12th grade, sharing a friendship that began long before their adult lives and careers took them in different directions.

"John was one of us. The best," Georgedakis said. "We grew up together. We went through school together from kindergarten through high school, and those memories stay with you for life. When I think about September 11, I think about our country and everyone we lost, but I also think about John, my friend."

Katsimatides, a resident of East Marion, New York, was a bond broker with Cantor Fitzgerald and worked on the 104th floor of the World Trade Center's North Tower. Cantor Fitzgerald, whose offices were located on floors 101 through 105, lost 658 employees on September 11, more than any other single company.

Friends and family remembered Katsimatides as charismatic, generous and larger than life, with a strong devotion to his family, friends and Greek Orthodox faith. Contemporary remembrances described someone who had an extraordinary ability to make the people around him feel valued and included.

His name, John A. Katsimatides, is permanently inscribed on Panel N-39 of the North Pool at the National September 11 Memorial in New York City.

The milestone anniversary comes at an important point in the preservation of September 11 history. According to the National September 11 Memorial & Museum, approximately 100 million Americans alive today are too young to personally remember the attacks, making the stories of those who were lost increasingly important to share with future generations.

The human toll has also continued long beyond September 11, 2001. As of August 31, 2026, the September 11th Victim Compensation Fund reported 9,780 deceased claims filed for victims who died as a result of eligible 9/11-related physical health conditions, more than three times the 2,977 people killed in the attacks themselves.

"Twenty-five years later, I want people to know John's name and know that he was more than a name on a memorial," Georgedakis said. "He was our friend. He was loved. He had an entire life ahead of him. Every person we lost that day had a story, a family and people who still carry their memory. That is what 'Never Forget' means to me."

On September 11, families will once again gather at the National September 11 Memorial to read aloud the names of those who were lost.

Among those names will be John A. Katsimatides.
