ATLANTA, Oct. 22, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Good2Go®, specialists in offering minimum coverage auto insurance, announced that their Cell Phone Safety Discount will now be available in Ohio. Customers will receive 5% off bodily injury, property damage, and collision coverage per vehicle for installing a device that blocks distracting cell phone functions such as text messaging, email, and Internet browsing. Full details are available at CellPhoneSafetyDiscount.com.
Eligible drivers can receive this discount by simply installing a qualifying text blocking device in their vehicle and providing a copy of the receipt as proof of purchase via email, fax, or postal service. Text blockers are hardware/software that disable cell phone functions such as texting, email, and Internet browsing while a vehicle is in motion. Only essential call functionalities are permitted such as 911 emergency calls.
In June of 2012, Ohio became the 39th state to pass a texting while driving ban for all drivers. The law prohibits a person who is under the age of 18 from using an electronic wireless communications device while driving, which includes texting, emailing, talking on a cell phone, Bluetooth or other similar device, computers, laptops, tablets, video games and GPS (manual use). It is a primary offense which carries a fine of $150 and driver license suspension of 60 days.
The law also prohibits adult drivers from using handheld electronic devices to write, send or read texts while driving. For drivers 18 years and older, breaking the law is a secondary offense which also carries a fine of up to $150. The law went into full effect February 2013. So far, 273 citations have been issued to violators of the new anti-texting law.
Good2Go® supports Ohio's continued efforts in protecting the roads from distracted drivers. Good2Go® introduced the Cell Phone Safety Discount to help save lives and encourage drivers to join the fight against distracted driving. In addition to stricter state laws and increased fines, Good2Go® believes in rewarding safe drivers for taking the extra step by installing a text blocking device and making the roads safer for everyone.
