Goodrich to Showcase Advanced Defence Technologies at DSEi

CHARLOTTE, N.C., Sept. 8, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Goodrich Corporation (NYSE: GR) will showcase a range of advanced military technologies at the Defence and Security Equipment International show (DSEi), which takes place from September 13-16, 2011 at the ExCel Center in London.

Highlights at the company's stand (N9-360) will include:

• Inertial sensors

• ISR (intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance) data collection, exploitation and dissemination systems

• Stabilised micro-gimbals

• TERPROM® digital terrain system

• Fixed and rotary wing actuation systems

Goodrich will launch the latest in its highly successful line of inertial measurement products at the show.  The microNav unit, with a total volume of just over 2 cubic inches (340 cu mm), integrates the company's MinIM® MEMS (micro electro-mechanical) based inertial measurement unit - launched at DSEi 2009 - with a state-of-the-art GPS receiver. Goodrich rugged MEMS IMU devices offer the ability to sense and accurately measure rotational and linear movement. The company is a market leader in this field with more than 25,000 MEMS units in use today on a wide range of military platforms.

Also on display, the DB-110, an LOROP EO/IR dual-band sensor, is in service in a number of countries, notably in the UK's Reconnaissance Air Pod for Tornado (RAPTOR). It has proved of immense value to both UK and allied forces in supporting operations in Afghanistan and Libya.  

Goodrich intelligence exploitation suites will also feature on the exhibit.  These systems provide effective information management and dissemination, enabling users to store, search and retrieve precisely the data they need, as they need it.  Goodrich technology also allows data to be transmitted over very low bandwidth communications networks, to reach the lowest tactical levels rapidly.

The TASE family of small, lightweight, inertial stabilized micro-gimbals with onboard GPS and IMU (inertial measurement unit) will be promoted at the show. The TASE system consists of a lightweight, stabilized camera gimbal with software and mount for the aircraft. The system collects video during flight, displaying this in real-time in the cockpit to reduce pilot workload, enhance safety and reduce costs. Images are also recorded for future playback and analysis.

The TERPROM® digital terrain system demonstrator will be available to 'fly' on the DSEi stand. The TERPROM system is in use with 14 nations worldwide and equips over 5,000 military aircraft, providing navigational accuracy for fixed and rotary wing aircraft of between 15 – 30 meters, with enhanced all-around situational awareness - even in areas where GPS is not available. TERPROM is used for predictive ground collision avoidance, to enable more accurate terrain following flight, for wire and obstacle warning and cueing, and for passive target ranging.

Goodrich will also showcase its actuation capabilities covering flight and mission critical hydro-mechanical and electro-mechanical systems for both primary and secondary flight control systems and utility systems.  Current major contracts include the weapons bay door actuation system for the F-35, and main and tail rotor actuators for the NH-90.  The company designs and builds, and offers in-house, through-life support for its actuation products - an advantage when fulfilling major international defence contracts.
