SPRINGFIELD, Mo., March 12, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Got Your Six Coffee has officially announced the availability of Oakland Police Officer Appreciation Packs to support the Oakland Police Department, in the wake of Hasta Muerte Coffee stating it would no longer serve police officers.
As reported by CNN, Hasta Muerte Coffee, a worker-owned, predominantly POC-run, coffee shop in Oakland, California, refused service to a uniformed Hispanic police officer on February 16, 2018, and admits to having a policy of asking police to leave the premises. The owners posted to Instagram stating a "police presence compromises our feeling of physical & emotional security."
"It's strange to hear of coffee shops turning away officers," explained Got Your Six Coffee owner and CEO, Eric Hadley. "On the website, they promote the business as being a POC, collectively-run, worker-owned shop committed to nurturing the community, but they're turning community away. I think it's wrong. Their website says they support solidarity, but they are dividing. I would like to flood the Oakland Police with coffee."
Got Your Six Coffee offers individuals several ways they can show their support, from $25 to $500. From donating two bags of coffee to donating a full fledge founding members package that includes a year's supply of coffee, Got Your Six Coffee offers four different options for supporting the Oakland Police Department.
The support for law enforcement is nothing out of the norm for Got Your Six Coffee. A "coffee company with a purpose," they have a history of supporting charitable organizations, and delivering aid in the face of natural disasters, including a fundraiser called Operation Safe Haven, which seeks to build tiny homes for veterans on 270 acres in New Jersey.
