Government Wireless Phone Subsidy Program Available in Bakersfield Through Telscape
Cell Phone Plans Available to Low-income Families for as Low as $2.50 per Month
BAKERSFIELD, Calif., Dec. 5, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Telscape, a California Lifeline Telephone provider, today announced the launch in Bakersfield of low-cost cellular phone plans through the Federal Lifeline and Link-Up program.
Telscape will provide federal Lifeline wireless service to approved California residents; $2.50 per month for 300 minutes of air-time (talk/text). A free cell phone is also available to all that qualify for the program.
Recognizing the need for accessibility of cell phones among Hispanic consumers, Telscape is launching a marketing program designed to raise awareness of government-subsidized wireless service available to low-income families. With this government-subsidy program Telscape hopes to enable low-income families to bridge the digital communications gap.
To qualify, persons must either: (1) meet household income requirements or (2) someone in the household participates in an approved government assistance program.

Telscape's wireless Lifeline service includes free custom calling features: nationwide long distance, caller I.D., voicemail, call waiting, and 3-way calling.
A service activation charge of $62.00 is applicable. However, eligible wireless federal lifeline customers would be charged a discounted rate of $32 for service activation. One Lifeline credit is available per household.
To support the program Telscape will also feature bilingual print ads in community newspapers and offer a direct mail program.
