Governor Hickenlooper Announces "Naropa University Day"

BOULDER, Colo., Sept. 18, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Colorado Governor John Hickenlooper signed a Proclamation declaring today "Naropa University Day." Governor Hickenlooper recognized Naropa's role as a leader in contemplative education and acknowledged its many contributions to the academic, cultural, and economic vitality of the State of Colorado since the university's founding in 1974.

The full text of the Proclamation:

WHEREAS, Naropa University, located in Boulder, Colorado, was founded in 1974 by the esteemed Buddhist leader, Chogyam Trungpa Rinpoche; and

WHEREAS, Naropa University is celebrating its 40^th Anniversary in 2014; and

WHEREAS, Naropa University is this nation's leader in contemplative education and is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission; and

WHEREAS, Naropa University has always been a magnet for great minds, intellectual curiosity, and those who search for greater meaning; and

WHEREAS, Naropa University's Summer Writing Program has attracted and taught some of our nation's greatest poets, authors and performers; and

WHEREAS, Naropa University and its 250 faculty and staff teach and serve the educational journey of more than 1,000 undergraduate and graduate students, preparing them to effectively address the most profound challenges and to transform the world around them; and
