Governor Rendell: Allied Technology to Establish First Plant in Eastern U.S.; Create 100 Jobs in Westmoreland County
HARRISBURG, Pa., Sept. 9 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- A leading equipment provider for the oil and gas industry will establish its first manufacturing plant in the eastern U.S. and create more than 100 jobs in Westmoreland County, Governor Edward G. Rendell announced today.
Allied Technology will establish a 30,000-square-foot facility at the I-70 Industrial Park in South Huntingdon Township that will manufacture pipes and pressure vessels for products used by the oil and gas industry for natural gas extraction from the Marcellus Shale region. The plant will also provide in-house engineering and design, certified welding and fabrication, sandblasting and painting.
The $7.5 million project will create at least 100 jobs within three years.
"This exciting project demonstrates two things: that the Marcellus Shale deposit is creating new economic opportunities for our state, and that our economic development efforts are helping create jobs and leverage private investment in Pennsylvania," said Governor Rendell. "Allied Technology has already committed to create more than 100 jobs, and the project's site allows for possible expansion in the future."
Allied Technology provides fully integrated services from the wellhead to refinery.
"We are committed to providing the best products and services to our growing client base in the Marcellus Shale," said Wendell Brooks, president and CEO of Allied Technology. "We are excited about our growth prospects as we make this investment, and pleased with the reception we've had from our clients and the various governmental agencies in Pennsylvania who have been assisting us in this project."
The project was coordinated by the Governor's Action Team, economic development professionals who work directly with businesses that are considering locating or expanding in the state.
The Pittsburgh Regional Alliance worked with the company and the Governor's Action Team to secure a $247,900 funding offer for the project from the Department of Community and Economic Development. The offer includes a $100,000 opportunity grant, $45,900 in job training assistance, and $102,000 in job creation tax credits.
"Allied Technology is putting down roots in the right place in Westmoreland County, given the region's historic leadership as a center of manufacturing and energy-related solutions," said Dennis Yablonsky, CEO of the Allegheny Conference on Community Development and Affiliates, including the PRA. "The Marcellus Shale gas assets are booming here, creating supply-chain demand. Add to that the Pittsburgh region's long-time strengths in engineering and manufacturing, and it's clear why we are emerging as America's leading center of energy-related solutions and services."
Since Governor Rendell took office in 2003, the Governor's Action Team has successfully completed 1,163 projects, resulting in commitments to create 128,105 new jobs and retain 300,573 existing positions. The commonwealth has offered more than $2.2 billion in assistance for these projects, which will leverage more than $16 billion in additional investment.
