Grammy-Nominated Violinist Cho-Liang Lin Announces Summer 2025 Festival Tour Across Three Continents

HOUSTON, June 23, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- Internationally acclaimed violinist and educator Cho-Liang Lin will embark on an extensive summer festival tour in 2025, bringing his artistry and pedagogical expertise to aspiring musicians across three continents. The Grammy-nominated virtuoso's schedule includes performances and masterclasses at six prestigious music festivals from June through August, demonstrating his continued commitment to both performance excellence and nurturing the next generation of musicians.

Having concluded the 2024-25 season with a triumphant concert in Qingdao, China, performing Tan Dun's Hero Violin Concerto with the Oscar-winning composer conducting, Lin now turns his attention to the intensive summer festival circuit. This transition from high-profile orchestral performances to intimate educational settings exemplifies Lin's dual role as both a world-class performer and dedicated pedagogue.

Summer festivals provide unique opportunities for intensive musical growth and artistic exchange. Lin, who currently serves as the Benjamin Armistead Shepherd Distinguished Professor of Violin at Rice University's Shepherd School of Music and as Artistic Director of the Hong Kong International Chamber Music Festival since 2011, brings decades of experience to each festival setting. Each festival has its own character and strengths, offering diverse students and repertoire across different cultural settings.

MONTECITO INTERNATIONAL MUSIC FESTIVAL

Two Sessions: June 26-30 & July 1-3, 2025
Location: California Lutheran University, Thousand Oaks, CA

Lin will serve as featured artist and faculty member during the second session of this renowned festival, which celebrates nearly two decades of musical excellence. The festival is held at the beautiful campus of California Lutheran University in Thousand Oaks, close to Los Angeles, California's sunny beaches, and the picturesque mountains and deserts of Southern California, featuring inviting walkways and modern buildings in a quiet, beautiful natural setting.

The festival has previously featured world-renowned artists including Glenn Dicterow (former concertmaster of the New York Philharmonic), Karen Dreyfus, Jean-Yves Thibaudet, Margaret Batjer (concertmaster of the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra), and Paul Coletti, among others. Students receive one-on-one private lessons as well as chances to perform in public masterclasses, perform in student concerts, and attend workshops on career coaching and music management.

Lin joins the faculty of this elite chamber music festival directed by violinist Andrés Cárdenes, himself a student of the legendary Josef Gingold. The festival presents world-renowned artists and alumni in free concerts throughout Boca Raton and Delray Beach, featuring programming that excites audiences with familiar pieces and adventurous new works. The cornerstone of The Josef Gingold Chamber Music Festival philosophy emphasizes Gingold's passionate commitment to music and humanity, with authentic performance practices embodied by the art of Josef Gingold, one of the primary exponents of the Golden Age of music and violin playing.

The festival's venues include the Amarnick-Goldstein Concert Hall at Lynn Conservatory, featuring excellent acoustics for chamber music performance. Past guest artists have included Elmar Oliveira, Emanuel Ax, Julian Rachlin, Gil Shaham, Gary Hoffman, and Nicola Benedetti. Core faculty alongside Artistic Director Andrés Cárdenes include Gary Levinson, Michael Klotz, Yuriy Bekker, Wendy Chen, and others who curate the program with a modern outlook intended to prepare participants for successful 21st century careers in music.

ALTSCHULER SUMMER MUSIC INSTITUTE

The European portion of Lin's tour centers on ASMI in the historic Adriatic seaside city of Rimini, founded and directed by violinist Emil Altschuler, a pupil of Dorothy DeLay at Juilliard and Erick Friedman at Yale. The institute's faculty hails from The Juilliard School, New England Conservatory, Royal College of Music, Eastman School of Music, Rice University, Bologna Conservatory, and includes pupils of the Leopold Auer and Andrés Segovia legacies.

The recently renovated and air-conditioned Conservatorio "Maderna-Lettimi" offers 18 classrooms, almost all with baby grand pianos, an auditorium with 88 seats and Steinway grand, and a library that seats 60-70 people. The institute welcomes students of all ages, levels, and nationalities, cultivating an inclusive, open, and healthy competitive atmosphere where students flourish by focusing on themselves and the music, rather than competing directly with each other.

About Cho-Liang Lin

Cho-Liang Lin has captivated audiences worldwide since his 1980 New York Philharmonic debut. A champion of contemporary music, he has premiered over 54 new works, including pieces by Pulitzer Prize-winner Christopher Rouse and Grammy-winner Joan Tower. Currently a professor at Rice University's Shepherd School of Music, Lin serves as Artistic Director of the Hong Kong International Chamber Music Festival. His extensive discography includes Grammy-nominated recordings, and he performs on the 1715 "Titian" Stradivarius.
