Gray Celebrates Groundbreaking for Global Leader Isuzu in South Carolina

PIEDMONT, S.C., Oct. 2, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- Gray, a fully integrated design-builder, is excited to celebrate the groundbreaking of the new state-of-the-art motor vehicle production plant for Isuzu North America Corporation, a global leader in commercial vehicles.

When Isuzu decided to expand its production footprint in the U.S., it selected Gray to design and build its newest facility.

This project includes the build-out and expansion of an existing 1,000,000 s.f. facility in Piedmont, SC and is one of nearly 70 active projects where Gray is advancing the industrial footprint across the U.S. and reaffirming its commitment to design-build. Gray is currently ranked the No. 3 Top Contractor for Auto Plants by Engineering News-Record.

Upon completion of the plant, Isuzu will produce gas, diesel, and electric-powered vehicles, partly in anticipation of the increased electrification of vehicles across the U.S.

The facility will be the first Isuzu plant featuring a variable-model, variable-volume production system for gas and diesel engines as well as electric vehicles. This will additionally be the first Isuzu facility to utilize a production line without conveyors or pits but instead feature a highly advanced line that promotes flexibility and scalability. Additionally, the facility will feature a number of automation systems throughout.

For more than 40 years, Isuzu trucks have been serving the U.S. dating back to the very first truck that arrived in 1984. Today, Isuzu has more than 300 dealers in North America.
