Green Science Alliance Established Exhibition Space to Display All Plant Biomass Based Materials and Products (Biodegradable Resin, Plant Biomass Paint etc.), at Tokyo, Japan

KAWANISHI-CITY, Japan, Feb. 20, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- Environmental problems such as climate change, deforestation, extinction of species, water and food shortage etc… due to explosion of human population are becoming increasingly severe worldwide. Plastic pollution is a severe environmental problem which cause adverse effects, especially nanoplastics are already present in the human body as a result of plastic polluted breathing air and though our meal. For example, we are ingesting nanoplastics through drinking water with PET bottle. Recently, there are some medical studies reporting the enhanced risk of heart attack caused by nanoplastics in blood vessels. The production and usage of biodegradable plastic is slowly increasing, although greater than 90 % of plastics worldwide are still petroleum-based non-biodegradable plastics. In addition, the production of this petroleum-based non-biodegradable plastics are still increasing regardless of these plastic pollution problems. Therefore, plastic pollution is worsening each year.

On the other hand, biodegradable plastics can biodegrade and return back to nature and do not become plastic pollution although biodegradability needs to be carefully examined in various types of conditions including compost condition, soil, water, sea water etc. However, biodegradable plastics including PLA (polylactic acid), lactone based materials are already applied for medical usage in human body. When biodegradable plastics are made from plant, since plant absorb CO₂ from surrounding atmosphere, the amount of CO₂ emission will be less than that of petroleum based plastics. Because the status of CO₂ is circulating so that they can be regarded as carbon neutral.

One of goal for Green Science Alliance is to replace all the petroleum based materials with plant biomass alternatives as Dr. Ryohei Mori as CEO of the company, wrote the scientific article which made front cover page of British scientific journal "RSC Sustainability".

Dr. Ryohei Mori and his company have been working on to actually materialize these products written in the article for many years, and now they set up the small exhibition space at Tokyo, Japan (1-25-5 Miyasaka Setagaya-ku, Tokyo prefecture) to display all of these plant biomass based materials and products.

2. Cutleries including spoon, fork and tableware such as dish, cup, bottles
3. Ball point pen
4. Paint, coating material
5. Plastic bags
6. Agricultural film
7. Nail cosmetics including nail tips, gel nail, nail polish, remover, thinner etc… The containers of these nail polish, gel nail are also made of plant based materials.
8. Glue
9. Plasticizer, Lubricant, Fluid for metal cutting process
10. Industrial detergent
11. Biochar, bamboo charcoal
12. Furniture such as table, bench, floor made by 3D printer
13. Quantum dot based nano fertilizer, quantum dot based anti-bacterial materials.

All of these materials and products are composed of plant biomass and some of them possess biodegradable property. They can also utilize organic waste natural resources such as waste wood, waste paper, waste food, waste seaweed etc. for their products. Some of them are composed of 100 % plant biomass based materials although some of them use partly petroleum based ingredients, in order to maintain product's characteristics such as mechanical strength, heat resistance etc. The important point is that they try to reduce the amount of petroleum they use for the products.

Green Science Alliance want to demonstrate that people can create various types of materials and products with plant natural based materials without using much petroleum and fossil fuels. That is why they set up such exhibition space.
