Greenberg Traurig's California Intellectual Property Practice Makes Debut Appearance in 2011 Chambers USA Guide
SAN FRANCISCO, Aug. 23, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- The California Intellectual Property Practice and team at the international law firm Greenberg Traurig LLP was recognized for the first time by Chambers and Partners, publisher of annual guides featuring leading lawyers and law firms worldwide. The 2011 Chambers USA Guide ranks the practice statewide and notes that the practice was "boosted by the lateral hires of two ranked lawyers" Vernon Winters and Nicholas Brown.
In addition to the practice ranking, Winters and Brown were ranked individually under the Intellectual Property: Patent category in the guide as was Heather J. Meeker, co-managing shareholder of the firm's Silicon Valley office. Meeker was also ranked under IT & Outsourcing. She was further noted for chairing the licensing and transactions group.
"Vern and Nick lead the San Francisco patent practice and in doing so, have grown the presence and reputation of the group throughout California. We expect that this recognition is just the beginning," said Matthew Gorson, President of Greenberg Traurig.
Winters and Brown joined the San Francisco office of Greenberg Traurig in October of 2010. Both attorneys were previously with Weil, Gotshal & Manges, LLP and have a combined experience of 35 years practicing law. Winters has a national practice focusing on patent litigation and patent license litigation, in areas ranging from biopharma to computers and networks. He has acted as lead trial counsel in numerous matters, representing some of the most innovative companies in the bio- and high-technology sectors. Brown has extensive high stakes patent litigation experience for a wide range of technology companies, as well as experience in general IP litigation and strategy.
"Having previously worked with Vern and Nick for many years, I understand the reputation for quality and professionalism they share and this recognition is well-deserved and exactly why we joined forces again -- to grow something special in all of California," said Kenneth Steinthal, managing shareholder of the firm's San Francisco office. Steinthal is recognized by Chambers and Partners in California in its Media & Entertainment: Litigation category.
More than 175 Greenberg Traurig LLP attorneys were included in the 2011 Chambers USA Guide. Of those, 11 are ranked attorneys who practice in California. According to Chambers and Partners, the publisher selects attorneys for inclusion in its guides based on thousands of interviews with practicing lawyers and with clients around the world. Clients and legal industry peers are quoted in critiques published for each area of practice and prepared by Chambers and Partners' research teams.
