Greenway Medical Technologies Advances Interoperability at Integrating the Healthcare Enterprise (IHE) North America Connectathon

CHICAGO, Jan. 11 /PRNewswire/ -- Greenway Medical Technologies, Inc., provider of the single-database, fully-integrated electronic health record (EHR), practice management and interoperability solution, PrimeSuite®, is participating within a series of more than a dozen public health, quality and clinical research interoperability testing events today through January 15 at the Integrating the Healthcare Enterprise (IHE) North America Connectathon in Chicago.

The IHE North America Connectathon - part of the global IHE initiative - strives to continue the creation of healthcare integration systems allowing medical practices, hospitals and other public and private healthcare institutions to quickly, effectively and securely share patient data. Greenway's participation is a precursor to the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) Interoperability Showcase as part of the HIMSS10 conference scheduled March 1-3 in Atlanta.

Along with Greenway's participation in IHE interoperability testing during the five-day Connectathon, Greenway Vice President of Marketing, Corporate Development and Government Affairs, Justin Barnes, is joining the inaugural board of directors of IHE's North American division, IHE USA. Barnes also serves as chairman of the national HIMSS Electronic Health Record Association (EHR Association).

On the national level, in September for example, Greenway participated in the 2009 Public Health Information Network (PHIN) Conference sponsored by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), aimed at improving information exchange between medical practices and public health information systems. At PHIN, PrimeSuite's CDC-based immunization schedule and forecast module was showcased at an immunization demonstration where it interoperated with population-based Immunization Information Systems (ISS), a premier standards-based IHE Immunization Content (IC) profile.

At this week's Connectathon, using global IHE profile initiatives in conjunction with Health Information Technology Standards (HITSP) specifications, Greenway's PrimeSuite utilizes its Retrieve Form for Data Capture (RFD), for example, in public health and clinical research scenarios, which achieves the implementation of research integration into healthcare workflow and is an ongoing joint effort by IHE and the Clinical Data Interchange Standards Consortium (CDISC).

For maternal health testing, Antepartum Summary Exchanges (APS) are used in conjunction with Cross Enterprise Document Sharing (XDS), Patient Identifier Cross Referencing (PIX), Patient Demographics Query (PDQ), Audit Trail and Node Authentication (ATNA) and Antepartum Record (APR) capabilities, in a scenario transitioning the patient from an ambulatory to hospital labor and delivery setting. The APS data contained in PrimeSuite, for example, records and makes available critical stages and checkpoints during the expectant mother's pregnancy period. Through the APS, critical diagnoses, estimated due dates, previous pregnancy outcomes and related benchmarks are available for review during labor and delivery.

Other Connectathon testings entail the use of Emergency Department Referrals (EDR), Drug Safety Content (DSC), Retrieve Protocol for Execution (RPE), Clinical Research Data Capture (CRD) and other interoperability functions within the scenarios of Emergency Care, Chronic Care with Remote Monitoring, Biosurveillance, Immunization and other settings.

Greenway combines the EHR capabilities of PrimeSuite with its integrated PrimeExchange® interoperability engine to allow providers and all users to share for review and analysis clinical information that also streamlines companion administrative and financial information as well.
