WASHINGTON, July 22, 2015 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- McBee Strategic, LLC today announced that Greg Garcia, the nation's first assistant secretary for cybersecurity and communications at the United States Department of Homeland Security, has joined the firm as Executive Vice President. With a deep and varied portfolio in cyber security policy for high technology, financial services, the executive branch and Congress, Garcia will lead the firm's growing cybersecurity policy advocacy, communications and coalition management practice.

Garcia was most recently Executive Director for the Financial Services Sector Coordinating Council (FSSCC), where he managed a coalition effort to strengthen the resiliency of the financial services sector against threats and attacks to its critical infrastructure. Previously, Garcia served as Bank of America's first cybersecurity partnership executive.

"The cybersecurity landscape continues to evolve, creating new policy, regulatory and communications challenges for companies to overcome," said Garcia, who authored and shepherded passage of Cyber Security Research and Development Act of 2002. "McBee, which operates uniquely at the intersection of the lobbying, strategic communications, and public policy fields, is perfectly positioned to counsel clients. I am excited to bring my expertise to the team."

Last year, McBee was purchased by Wiley Rein LLP and operates as an independent subsidiary. The combined firms have more than 300 professionals and create a Washington, DC legal, advocacy, and communications powerhouse providing sophisticated client services. McBee has significantly expanded its communications and advisory practices in 2015, adding more than 16 professionals to the team.

"Greg has an unparalleled background that will help companies in both the security and user industries to navigate the confluence of their business operations and the pressures of cybersecurity policy and regulation," said Rob Chamberlin, Managing Director and a member of the firm's Executive Committee. "His experience will also support our efforts as we continue to grow our communications and coalition management for technology and cybersecurity."

"We're thrilled that McBee continues to grow strategically, particularly in the cybersecurity area, which is of the utmost importance to companies in virtually every industry," said Peter D. Shields, Managing Partner of Wiley Rein and a member of McBee's Executive Committee. "With his proven abilities in cybersecurity advancement, Greg is a strong, strategic addition to the McBee team and complements Wiley Rein's experience in this area. We're confident he'll be of tremendous value to clients across the board."
