EMERYVILLE, Calif., Aug. 17, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- With hunger currently impacting 1 in every 6 Americans1, this year's 6th Annual Grocery Outlet Independence from Hunger® Campaign reached an important milestone nationwide: over $500,000 raised by concerned customers, employees and independent store operators in six states to fight this urgent issue. Since launching this campaign in 2010, Grocery Outlet has raised over $2.2 million to address critical food insecurity needs in the communities the company serves.
"We thank our customers, employees, and store operators for their incredible generosity during this effort," said Grocery Outlet Inc. Co-CEO Eric Lindberg. "By working together, all of us can combat the issue of food insecurity and help our neighbors in need."
Grocery Outlet customers helped in a number of ways including purchasing specially-marked "high-need" food items, purchasing pre-made bags filled with an assortment of high-need groceries or making a monetary donation at the register. Together, all of these elements will help serve thousands families experiencing hunger in the six states where Grocery Outlet stores operate.
For the 2016 campaign, each of the more than 250 Grocery Outlet stores throughout the nation teamed up with a local food agency in their area, and all donations received throughout the campaign went directly to that partner. All Grocery Outlet stores are independently owned and operated by families who are committed to giving back to the local community.
