Grupo Salinas Successfully Organizes Over 6 Million Volunteers for the Fourth Annual "Limpiemos Nuestro Mexico" Nationwide Anti-Litter Campaign

MEXICO CITY, Feb. 27, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Grupo Salinas, a group of dynamic, fast-growing  and technologically advanced companies founded by Mexican entrepreneur Ricardo B. Salinas, and its non-profit arm Fundacion Azteca announce the successful completion of the fourth annual nationwide cleanup day as part of an ongoing environmental campaign known as "Limpiemos Nuestro Mexico."

The event was spearheaded by Grupo Salinas Founder and Chairman Ricardo B. Salinas in conjunction with Mexico's Education Ministry, the SEMARNAT environmental ministry, Bimbo and Barcel, as well as Grupo Salinas companies Azteca, Grupo Elektra and Grupo Iusacell.

The campaign includes a coordinated series of television spots and programs to increase awareness of the problem of littering and improper refuse handling in Mexico, as well as proposing practical solutions.

Over six million people throughout Mexico participated in the cleanup day held on February 26. The zones targeted for cleanup included urban areas, rivers, lakes, beaches, parks and national monuments. In all, volunteers collected a  total of 30,500 metric tons of garbage, enough to fill a single line of garbage truck for 20 miles.

The program is also being replicated in Guatemala, El Salvador and Peru.
