LA JOLLA, Calif., March 19, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- GuidedChoice, an industry leader in investment advice, managed account services, and strategic solutions for retirement plans and individuals, has announced the publication of an award-winning paper describing Financial Guidance Theory (FGT), an innovative approach to optimizing income in retirement.
The paper explains in detail the "rational approach to the uncertainties of retirement income" developed by Dr. Harry Markowitz, founder of Modern Portfolio Theory (MPT) and Chief Architect of the firm's investment solutions. As described by Dr. Markowitz and co-winner, GuidedChoice CEO Sherrie Grabot, FGT is built on the same foundation as MPT, but extends that body of work to account for the increased complexity and variability of retirement income versus retirement investing. The paper goes on to describe how the theory of income translates into a practical methodology to guide real-life financial decisions.
The paper has been awarded the 2012 Practitioner Thought Leadership Award by the Retirement Income Industry Association (RIIA). According to RIIA, the award is given annually to contributors who "demonstrate excellence in original thinking and industry leadership on retirement management topics," specifically in the area of retirement income. Sponsored by Allianz Global Investors, the award also recognizes GuidedChoice CIO Ming Wang and CTO Ganlin Xu as co-contributors to the development of FGT.
According to Grabot, the award brings well-deserved attention to the complex challenges of retirement income, and to the solutions now available. "We're thrilled at the recognition for the continuing intellectual leadership of Dr. Markowitz, and also for our own efforts to implement his work in a way that helps everyday retirees."
The paper is published in the Spring 2012 issue of RIIA's Retirement Management Journal.
