HACU Hispanic higher education conference schedule and Town Hall on Hispanic STEM education announced
SAN ANTONIO, Aug. 13, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- The Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities (HACU) has announced 64 workshops for its 27th Annual Conference, Oct. 26-28, 2013 in Chicago, Ill.
Workshops in six categories will be presented under the overall theme, "Championing Hispanic Higher Education Success: Securing the American Dream." A Student Track for undergraduate students will also be offered. Click here to view a detailed conference schedule.
An international plenary on "Successful International Education Partnerships in Latin America" and a Town Hall on "Building Hispanic Participation in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM)" will address higher education issues related to international partnerships and advancing STEM, respectively.
The HACU Town Hall on Oct. 28, moderated by Emir Jose Macari, Ph.D., dean of the College of Engineering and Computer Science at California State University, Sacramento and recipient of the White House/NSF Presidential Faculty Fellowship (1992), will discuss the current state of Hispanic STEM education and potential impact on national competitiveness in the global marketplace. The panelists will take part in a question and answer session with the audience.
Town Hall panelists include: Maria Cardona, principal of the Dewey Square Group, founder of Latinovations and CNN/CNN en Espanol political contributor with more than two decades of experience as a public policy advocate and political strategist; and Mark B. Rosenberg, Ph.D., president of Florida International University (FIU), the first FIU faculty member appointed to the office and a seasoned educator with more than 35 years of higher education experience.
HACU's premier conference on Hispanic higher education will also offer a HACU College and Career Fair on Sunday, Oct. 27, 2-5 p.m. with free college-related workshops for middle school, high school and college students. The Exhibit Hall, which attracts more than 120 exhibitors, will be free and open to the public on Oct. 27, 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. and Oct. 28, 10 a.m. - 2 p.m.
A pre-conference Latino Higher Education Leadership Institute, Oct. 26, and a post-conference Deans' Forum on Hispanic Higher Education, Oct. 29, will also be offered in conjunction with the conference.
