Hainan Airlines Opens Roundtrip Route between Shanghai and Boston
BOSTON, June 21, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Hainan Airlines' HU7961 flight landed at Logan International Airport at 2:35 pm on June 20th local time, marking the official launch of Hainan Airlines' Shanghai-Boston route, its sixth in North America.
Boston's Logan International Airport welcomed the Chinese passengers who had taken the long flight from Shanghai, the Pearl of the Orient, with the traditional "water gate" welcoming ceremony. Leading members of the local community gathered at the airport to congratulate Hainan Airlines on the opening of its second Boston route. Notable invitees in attendance included Port of Boston Authority CEO Tom Glynn, Hainan Airlines vice president Hou Wei, and other distinguished guests.
Hainan Airlines vice president Hou Wei explained at the ceremony that Hainan Airlines has been expanding into the North American market since 2008 with the addition of several new routes in recent years, including Beijing-San Jose, initiated on June 15 and Shanghai-Seattle, set to open on June 22. The airline has opened seven North American routes over the course of 15 years, with flights into Seattle, Chicago, San Jose and Toronto.
Hainan Airlines' Shanghai-Boston route will be serviced by a two-cabin, 213-seat, Boeing 787. The aircraft's business class comes equipped with 36 180-degree flatbed seats while economy can accommodate up to 177 passengers. The AVOD entertainment system is installed on all 213 seats.
